I downloaded some no cd patches off the net by I have no idea how what to do with them. Its not a patch you just run and it installs itself; its a rar file what ever that is.Do you have to burn the whole cd/dvd to hard disk or do you use just the normal install.I'm very confused - View image here: -Can anyone explain to me how to use these patches? These are the software I'm installing no cd patches too -Unreal Tournament 2004MafiaCounter strike condition zeroCall of duty. You need to extract the.rar file using winrar or another file utility that can extract.rar files and then follow the instructions. You'll most likely have to replace the game's exe file in whichever directory it's located.I suggest you rename the original exe file rather than copy over it, in case the no cd crack doesn't work. Get a decent decompression program (like WinRar, IZArc, or something similar) to expand the file. Gee, you know, when i looked at the thread title i thought it was going to be some thought-provoking conversation started about NoCD patches, and how we all use them because it's just easier - but how many of us have used them to play pirated software?so let's start off this converstion eh? Or is that an illegal discussion?i personally will not usually play a game if there is no No CD patch yet, because i hate having to swap CDs all the time, and i don't always want to play the same game.

'it's just easier'.I have used them to pirate i admit. Although i have most of the time bought the game eventually, when the prices go down.

Well that's the risk that comes with it.There is no legitimate first party no-CD patch and none will ever likely be released. As a result the only option is to use a possibly risky third party no-CD patches/cracks. You do this at your own risk. If you're simply inconvenienced at putting the disk in all the time, I would say it is not worth jeopardizing your investment. It isn't so much that it will mess up your game, it's what it could possibly do to anything/everything in your hard drive.(Edit: Underlined because some people are blind).

I administrated an internet cafe for 7 years.No-Cd cracks can make the game a bit unstable or remove a feature or two,but jeapordize your system? No they can't. Not as long as you have a decent anti-virus installed. That's just a myth that they can do damage to your system or make your game unplayable or corrupt your data. There IS the legal rammification of using it. But honestly the EULA isn't worth the time taken to write it, it's so full of holes. Also no gaming internet cafe in their right mind is going to give the original CD (If anything) to the customer so they can play their games. The PC's get treated like crap as it is, a CD would not even last a week. That's the major reason why internet cafes are never punished for using no-CD cracks.

Keygens of course, naturally. As long as you're entitled to have the game e.g you own the physical disc, you can do practically anything you want with it BAR COPY AND DISTROBUTE IT. But jeapordize your system? No they can't.

Not as long as you have a decent anti-virus installed.Counting on an automated anti-virus application to solely police your system? That's tantamount to saying someone can roam free and download anything, even the most suspicious executables and the AV will shield him from everything which is patently false.

It's very practical for any person to find a simple application somewhere on the internet to place a range of malicious content on an executable file.' Decent' AV can't stand up to unknown threats even with some degree of heuristics and how many plebians are even up to date on their definitions? How many people even go by your definition of 'decent' AV applications? You can field the question of whether automatic/resident AV is good enough on its own to some of the top security experts in the field and I all but guarantee that they will laugh. A 'decent' AV is still a dumb AV.

To imply that a user need not be proactive, instead rely solely on 'decent' resident AV is rather foolish. If 'decent' AV was all you needed they wouldn't be bothering people to do anything else but install it, clearly this is not the case and laughable if you think the contrary. Rather than placing emphasis on AV over user knowledge you should have placed user knowledge over AV with AV acting only as a light safety net, user knowledge is paramount.

That's just a myth that they can do damage to your system or make your game unplayable or corrupt your data. It's no myth, YMMV but the possibility of it happening is very real and not negligible. Refer to the thousands of people who download ransomware that lock their important files and request payment to unlock them. A lot of good AV did in those situations right? The reality is the files are as secure as the backup media you put them on, nothing more and this is the only truth.

This nonsense about the inability to corrupt data is a funny joke.
